Subject: McHenry County Wireless Association
Regular Meeting minutes – June 7, 2011
The June meeting of MCWA was called to order at 7:31pm with our president, Ken KB9I.
With the introductions I counted 28 in attendance that evening.
It was announced that the Mcwa.org Web site along with the newsletter have recently been updated.
By consensus of the club Ken felt it best not to have a July MCWA meeting. The club activities will resume in August with our meeting on August 2.
From my recording, I think Jack said the August program would focus on how to set up a mobile installation.
Events: Ken spoke about the need for volunteers for the Woodstock challenge road run, to be held at the Woodstock emerickson park on Saturday, June 18 from 8 am to 11 am. 6 were signed up as of today June 7.
If interested, see Ken to sign up. Ken was sure he would be able to get t-shirts for the participants.
Field day: will be Held at the EOC government center in Woodstock in the front. It will be a 3f location. If you plan to attend please sign up at mcraces.org so John knows who is coming.
Everyone is welcome!
The W9ca field day group will operate once again this year in Waconda. They were the 3a field day winners last year.
The welcars field day operation has been moved from its previous location to fox lake.
I believe Ken stated that Nj1m john and slade, aare also hosting field day at the waconda park district.
Marty K9mlp informed us that our current treasurer, Dave kc9rsn, may be leaving for Afghanistan and Africa. So that club office will be open this fall for anyone interested and capable.
In other News, Wendell talked about the vhf uhf contest being held this upcoming weekend. It begins at 1pm Saturday and continues through 9pm Sunday night. Check these frequencies first: on vhf, 146.55 and on u h f 446.000. The most frequent contact times are at the top of each hour.
It was reported to us that Alan's w9hog health is improving. But he is still home bound.
Valerie spoke with us about the Tickets for the Y L R L raffle. The cost is $1 per ticket. She said if anyone wants a ticket to see her at the break.
A club member who‘s name I did not catch talked about a press release by the world health organization, that said Rf from cell phones might cause cancer.
However, I couldnt catch many details about the study from my recording.
Jack informed us that Radio shack, wants to jump back into the ham radio business. They are re-thinking their policies on that topic. For more info, you can go to their web site and let them know your opinion on that subject.
Ken let us know that After the meeting club members can gather at the village squire in Crystal Lake near u.s. 14 and 176 and pitch in for pizza etc., everyone is welcome.
Finally, Marc, WA9YVL inquired about whether or not the jamming of the repeater, on 145.41 had ceased.
It was reported the malicious interference had stopped for a while but then had started up again late at night.
Those in charge of the repeater along with other hams in the area are continuing to take steps to rectify the problem.
It was also brought to our attention that a new wireless internet provider, under the name of either wrls or light squared, is setting up high powered towers all over the country, but their signals are disrupting many gps systems.
After the break Jack gave a program on how to dx on the 10, 12, 15, 17 and 20 meter bands.
The Meeting was adjourned at 9pm
