McHenry County Wireless Association Meeting Minutes

Subject: Meeting Minutes of April 4, 2017

The monthly April meeting was called to order by President John KA9CAR at 7:00 p.m. on April 4, 2017 in the Crystal Lake Bank meeting room.

K9RUF led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

President John asked if any visitors were present and Mike from McHenry, who had recently passed his Technician exam, was introduced to the group.

Introductions around the room followed. Thirty-four people were in attendance for the meeting.

President John encouraged all to join the club Yahoo reflector, K9RN. Jerry N9AVY is the newsletter editor, and members with newsletter input should submit to Jerry.

The minutes from the March meeting were published for review on the club website by Secretary Roger, KF9D. John, K9JK moved to accept the minutes as published, seconded by Mike, ND9G. The motion passed by voice vote.

Treasurer Joe, N9OK reported a balance of $5006.22 in the club treasury. Paid membership for 2017 stood at 82 at the beginning of the meeting. Mike KC9Q made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report, seconded by JP, KD9JPC. The motion passed by voice vote.
Jeff, KC9WSJ is custodian of the club library and has several good books available to club members.

President John reminded the club that the July regular meeting will be at Field Day on June 24th. President John said that a volunteer is still being sought to run the meeting to be held at the FD location as well as coordinate the family picnic.

President John again asked for a volunteer to set up a winter dinner in early 2018. Pierre, K9EYE volunteered to coordinate the dinner.
President John announced that Jack W9MU is retiring from the position of Program Director after several years of service. The club thanked Jack with a round of applause. A replacement Program Director is being sought, and the Board of Directors will meet before the May meeting to discuss a candidate.

Under the topic of general announcements, President John reminded members of an upcoming program at the Fermi Lab in Batavia sponsored by the Chicago Chapter of the IEEE-EMC Society on April 19th. The topic is a program on “Man-made Noise and the Impact to Radio Communications – The Changing Environment”. Reservations are needed, contact Kermit Carlson, W9XA.

Dave NT9E announced that the Saturday breakfast held on April 1st at the Green St. Café in McHenry had 14 attendees. Following the breakfast, several members went to the field day site for planning purposes. Dave asked members about the idea of obtaining 3 screen tents for FD use, to be purchased out of the previously approved FD budget. Dave said he would be happy to store the tents following field day.

President John reminded the group that we are being allowed use of the field day site for no charge in exchange for providing communications for the Woodstock Challenge Run to be held on June 17th at 8 a.m. Dave NT9E will coordinate volunteers for the event.

Under the topic of Hamfests, Paul W9DWP mentioned the upcoming hamfest at Stoughton, Wi. on the coming Saturday. Additionally Paul mentioned that the WGN sponsored weather program is scheduled for this weekend at Fermi Lab.

Mike, WB8BZK informed the group on contests coming up in April. See the newsletter and QST for details.

Pierre, K9EYE reminded the group of the 6 meter net on Wednesday nights from 7-8 p.m. on 50.130 Mhz. Since inception last October, there have been 35 total participants in the net.

A VE test session will be held in May. See the club website for details.

Everyone was invited to enjoy pizza at the Cottage restaurant following the meeting.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Olaf, W9LY and seconded by Pierre, K9EYE. The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 pm.

After a short break, the club saw a joint presentation by Jack W9MU and Roger KF9D on appropriate Field Day antennas and feedlines.
