Regular Meeting minutes – September 1, 2009

Meeting began 19:30
Introductions: MCWA President Jim, N7US opened the meeting by asking for visitors and guests to start the self-introductions. The 17 members and 2 visitors introduced themselves.
OLD BUSINESS
A motion was made to ratify the club library rules as published on the web site and emailed to all members and appoint KB9I the club librarian was made by W9MLP, seconded by N9REP: Carried
W9MLP donated a book to the library (50 Years of Amateur Radio Innovation – Transmitters, Receivers, and Transceivers: 1930 – 1980, by Joe Veras, K9OCO, published by ARRL)
NEW BUSINESS
KB9I passed around picture of tower installations and repairs.
REPEATER REPORT
KB9I described on going efforts of Edison to reduce or eliminate the noise caused by defective insulators. Some action has occurred and more is needed. Edison officials promised more action to come.
W9ZE with McHenry County RACES & ARES discussed the organization and its needs. He directed those interested to check out the web site mcraces.org. He also explained Marengo ARES is looking for help with the annual Settlers Days Parade on Sunday, October 11, from 12:30 PM until approximately 4:00 PM . Hams are being sought to help provide communications support during the parade lineup and during the parade. Staging will be behind the Marengo Police Station. The only needed equipment will be a portable radio with 146.835, K9ESV for talk in, and 146.490 simplex for the parade. Everyone will be assigned reflective vests for the event. He also discussed the weekly net on the K9ESV repeater 146.835 PL 91.5 on Monday at 20:00 and Saturday at 08:00.
N7US and N9AVY discussed the The 57th W9DXCC DX CONVENTION & BANQUET SEPTEMBER 18 & 19, 2009. For more detail see http://www.w9dxcc.com/
W9HOG reported on his attempts to contact hams in Spring Grove. W9MLP observed if you log into http://www.openaprs.net/ and center the map on your location, you can show hams near you under the view menu. He suggested you could look up some of those hams and invite them to a meeting. (N7US added http://www.vanityhq.com/ has the hams near you facility as well)
N9REP discussed the ARRL September VHF QSO Party, September 12 – 13. He and the N9UHF group would be working the contest and invited everyone to check in on 146.55 or 446.00 with his group.
N9AVY reminded hams of the RADIO EXPO 2009 HamFest at the BOONE COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS in BELVEDERE, Illinois on the weekend of Sept 12-13 , 2009. For more info see http://www.chicagofmclub.org/
ELECTIONS FOR 2010
N7US noted that the annual election of club officers was to take place at the September meeting. The standing officers met at N7US station and produced a slate of candidates: KB9I President, KA9OZP Vice President, W9MLP Treasurer, K9KMD Secretary. He made a motion to enter these candidates, seconded by N9AVY. He asked for nominations from the floor. None received. W9MLP spoke advising he does not think the treasurer should serve more than two consecutive terms for financial accountability. Therefore he would like to find someone interested in running for treasurer next year so he can arrange an orderly transfer. Anyone interested contact W9MLP. KB9I discussed the need to have a list of future programs as far ahead of the presentation date as possible and remarked that he would try to have the meeting over by 21:00. The posted candidates were elected by a vote of members present. W9MLP asked for a show of hands of members to confirm a quorum voted. He confirmed a quorum.
KB9I discussed the after meeting, meeting at The Village Squire 4818 Northwest Hwy (US 14) and invited everyone to join the group.
N9REP announced a raffle will be held during the break. After the break the program was presented. The program was a video of the 9X0R Dxpedition.
